Curriculum

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the curriculum that runs from birth to 5 years of age, and is made up of seven areas of Learning and Development. All areas of Learning and Development are connected to one another and are equally important. They are as follows;

Prime Areas
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Communication and language
• Physical Development

Specific Areas
• Mathematics
• Express arts and design
• Knowledge and understanding of the world
• Literacy

We ensure we offer a rich environment to allow the children to learn and explore in all these areas, allowing free use of resources and offering different opportunities to stretch their learning. We follow the children’s interests and development needs to plan an environment that will stimulate each child. The adult’s role is to ensure an enticing learning environment is set up for the children to access and then the adult will go into the child’s play to offer new experiences.

Learning Journals and Record Keeping

We provide a journey of your child’s learning from when they start with us. This is all kept online where you will get your own personalised log in details. It is all catered to your child, so you will not receive any observations that do not belong to you. You can also contribute to these and add pictures and observations of your child’s milestones and achievements out of nursery hours. When it comes to your child leaving, we can print this for you and it will always be accessible for you online.
We need to keep some information on your child for a length of time. You will be informed, when you complete any information of how long your details will be kept. In terms of development staff will complete a summative assessment once every term to give you an outline of how your child is developing at nursery. This will then be verbally fed back to and you will also get a written copy. We also undertake the children’s 2-year checks that were initially carried out by a health visitor. You will be invited to a meeting to discuss your child’s development and a few health-related subjects. All information we hold will be strictly kept confidential.
